Financial wellness, or getting a grip on finances, is important to overall health and wellness. Countless studies have shown a direct correlation between stress and finances. By employing active and sensible financial management strategies, you can realize a greater sense of empowerment, enthusiasm, and satisfaction with life while avoiding some of the immense physical and emotional tolls caused by chronic financial stress.

However, when it comes to your views and behaviors around money, there are few quick fixes. As such, we need to engage in the bigger picture to ensure that we are prepared for factors that will impact our long-term financial health. There are activities we can perform regularly — daily saving, for instance — that will pay dividends down the road. There are also more periodic activities like budgeting, maintaining an awareness of investments, and actively planning for retirement that greatly enhance our financial health.

This challenge aims to inspire you to make healthy choices in regards to your finances by changing small habits to save money that would have been spent otherwise. Examples include:

  • prepare your coffee at home and you can save as much as $5 per day
  • reduce or eliminate dining out or take out food; cooking more or all meals at home could save $100 or more a month
  • maintaining a garden can provide you with $25 in fresh produce each week
  • cut out cable and you can save up to $150 a month
