Nutritional wellness includes eating a balanced diet to promote overall health and wellbeing. A wide variety of food provides our bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins, and minerals to live, grow, and function properly. As recommended by the USDA, healthy eating includes drinking enough water, eating healthy fats, protein, and whole grains, and minimizing one’s intake of processed foods, unhealthy fats, and alcohol.

In particular, a diet that is high in fruit and vegetables can help protect you against cancer, diabetes, and heart disease due to the important vitamins, minerals, fiber, and plant chemicals that they contain. Thankfully, there are several varieties of fruit and vegetables that can be prepared and cooked in many ways to keep your taste buds happy. Join this challenge to help increase your intake of these two very important components of healthy eating!

  6. Love the encouragement this kind of challenge provides! With due respect to what the Harvard “Healthy Eating Plate” gets right — let’s not kid ourselves that there are “healthy”processed oils, just less unhealthy ones. All oil is 100% fat — yummy, but not healthy. Keep your oil bound to whole plant food — avocado, nuts, seeds — now you’re healthy!
